Project Description

Engineering Challenge – Blades on Bulker

Services

  • Planning and calculation of possibilities for a vessel, which is not designed for decks cargo
  • Engineering of grillage (cargo stool) to extend loading capacities on deck
  • Maximum intake of 62 blades required

Scope

  • Stowage and seafastening of blades on bulker deck
  • Problem: a bulker is not designed for heavy load on deck
  • Several issues: strength of deck, hatch covers and sides require exact calculation of weightspreading
  • Sloping deck requires exact measurement to guarantee horizontal alignment of the cargo
  • Vessels deck design with four cranes could be an issue for the loading and lashing processes
  • The height of the stowed cargo must not exceed the sight line
  • Ongoing clarification of upcoming issues during loading process
  • Creating and engineering of stools
  • accompanying supervision from the German office during the production of the steel structure on site

Added Value

  • Providing transportation solutions for cargo and vessel, which are not designed for each other enlarges the shipping possibilities for the customer
  • Fast and ad hoc solutions created within tight time limits
